So, you may have noticed that the Author's Comments section of my poems tends to be rather bare. I know that a lot of people like to know what a poem is about for the writer in order to feel they really "get" it. Personally I feel it’s a distraction. What I feel is important is what the poem means to the reader, what thoughts and feelings it invokes for you. If my poetry can't speak for itself and move you, without a back story, it’s not worth the paper it’s been written on.

My words have always been something that I have used to express the moments that overwhelm me, the emotions that leave me breathless. In writing, I lay myself bare and drop the masks I so often wear to hide these truths from those around me. I sometimes wonder if I bleed words, rather than blood, when wounded as it seems to be in those moments of pain that I find the most need to write. My words, for the most part are not pretty and they often speak of the darker aspects of my life. Hopefully, I will learn how to better express my happier moments through words as well.

This is the first time I have ever really shared them with a wider audience, and I have really only done so at the behest of the few good friends I have. I do not mind criticism and I know that I do not write in any conventional style, as my high school language arts teachers used to so often complain, so if you choose to comment - be kind, this is a learning process for us all. If I do not reply right away, or at all, don't be offended- it still strikes me as strange that anyone would find value in my writings, let alone want to read them.

In closing, I would like to say thank you - to those of you who have stumbled onto my page, to those of you who lurk, to those of you who comment and to those of you who add. In sharing my words with you, though terrifying, I am already finding joy.
